Feminist Research Consultancy Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Analysis/ Women and Youth-led Peace and Reconciliation Program in Iraq

Mercy Corps

Bodhi implemented a collaborative qualitative research exercise to support Mercy Corps’ Women- and Youth-led Peace and Reconciliation Program in Iraq. The research aimed to better understand the specific experiences and perspectives of women and youth regarding their participation in reconciliation processes in Ninawa, Iraq. The study contributed to informing and guiding Mercy Corps' programme by examining existing peacebuilding processes, levels of social acceptance for different identity groups, and barriers and entry points for women and youth involvement. The methodology involved a participatory research process, comprehensive secondary data collection (literature review from 2017-2023), and primary data collection through 22 key informant interviews and 8 focus group discussions, conducted by community researchers trained by Bodhi. Bodhi produced a detailed gender equality and social inclusion analysis report and worked collaboratively with community representatives, particularly women and youth, in Al-Hamdaniya District, Ninawa, to co-design and conduct the research.
