Baseline and endline assessment for Girl Effect and GAVI’s 5.0 programme (Tanzania and Ethiopia)

Girl Effect

Bodhi undertook both a baseline and endline evaluation of the Mwanzo Mwema Programme, a four-year initiative by Girl Effect (GE) in partnership with GAVI, running from 2022 to 2026 in Tanzania and Ethiopia. The programme aims to increase demand for the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine among 9-14-year-old girls and for routine immunisation (RI) among caregivers aged 15-29, including pregnant women, focusing on hard-to-reach girls and young mothers. The evaluation assessed the intent and uptake of HPV and RI vaccines, collected baseline indicator performance data, responded to GE's learning questions regarding attitudes, practices, and programme efficiency, and provided recommendations for future implementation. The evaluation, conducted between May 2023 and February 2024 in the Katavi, Tabora, and Lindi regions. It employed a mixed-methods methodological approach, utilising individual cohort studies and cross-sectional household studies for quantitative data, complemented by qualitative data from key informant interviews and focus group discussions. The evaluation employed a gender-sensitive and child-rights-based approach.
