Bodhi developed a Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI) for Somalia with the World Food Programme (WFP). The study assessed women’s empowerment across decision-making, access to resources, income control, leadership, and time use. It also determined the Gender Parity Index (GPI) to reflect the percentage of women who are as empowered as men in their households and developed empowerment scores and qualitative and quantitative data on women’s agricultural engagement to provide recommendations for gender-transformative programming. By using a gender-sensitive mixed-methods approach, the findings informed WFP’s Climate-smart Food Systems Strategy, supporting the design of gender-transformative programmes to enhance resilience and equity in Somalia’s agriculture sector. The study informs the design and implementation of WFP’s gender-transformative Climate-smart Food Systems Strategy.
